"Bringing together the 4 corners through one common thread..Lowriding!"
This past weekend we had the chance to collaborate with film director Charlie Chacon; the creator of West Los the Documentary. Charlie was born and raised in Culver City, C.A and was exposed to the gang life at an early age. Through the eyes of Charlie he had seen 4 of the oldest barrios on the West Side try to live amongst each other. These West Side barrios are Culver City, Santa Monica, Venice & Sotel. Much gang-violence occurred and separated these 4 neighborhoods through the generations. Through the struggle, Charlie Chacon seen the beauty.

The West Los Documentary shows how these 4 barrios are uniting through one common thread...lowriding! His documentary sheds light on social issues such as gentrification, the lack of support from city officials & the corrupt ordinances that target our Chicano culture. His footage will also feature locals that have been raised on the West Side, their back stories and how all of this ties in together with his film. As he documents, he relies heavily on the support of the people to make this film possible.

Lowriding began is Los Angeles in the late 1940's and is still well and alive. Lowriders used to consist of basic cut & drops on their classic cars. However, the culture has evolved. Much time and money goes into these cars. Not only do they modify their classics by chopping and cutting; but modern hydraulics are added and a huge portion of energy goes into the beautiful paint jobs. You can see a simple candy apple red paint job on one car or an entire mural that explains the history of Chicanos or an individual.
West Los the Documentary is still in the works and has dropped an official trailer for his viewers. Give Charlie Chacon & his team a follow on Instagram for sneak peak videos & projects that he is creating to build up his film.
